Oils for Blemish Free Skin
A wide variety of herbs exist known for repairing and maintaining beautiful skin. Today I will focus on just a few herbs that help heal blemishes and pimples. You can buy herbs in bulk or just the essential oil extracted from that plant. With some exceptions, essential oils need to be diluted with carrier/base oils such as olive oils, coconut oil or any other food grade vegetable oil sold for internal consumption. Some of these oils can be taken internally too to enhance their blood cleansing effects.
Blemish Free Skin: Neem
Essential oil, leaves and twigs from Neem or the Margosa tree have a number of application in cleansing and flushing blood of toxins so you have blemish free skin. Juice extracted from grinding fresh Neem leaves rolled into balls, taken on an empty stomach proves a wonderful blood purifier. Neem tastes pungent and astringent, whereas the after taste is bitter. All the more it is believed to be a natural antiseptic, antipruritic(anit-itch) and a natural wound healer. Recommended Dosage: 10 to 20 ml fresh juice extracted from the leaves. Also used for local application. Neem oil can also be taken internally undiluted for the same purpose. It can also be applied directly to skin blemishes or mixed with other oils for synergistic effect. Saffron has similar blood purifying properties.
Blemish Free Skin: Turmeric
Turmeric, known as a pungent spice, has been associated with beauty and health alike in Ayurveda. Mix turmeric powder with some oil of choice, flour and sandalwood powder. Applied to the skin, this paste removes blemishes and leaves your skin soft and glowing. Internal Recommended Dosage: 1 to 3 grams of the powder added to meals daily for blemish free skin.
Blemish Free Skin: Sandalwood
Sandalwood can be used as a stand alone treatment for skin eruptions and skin inflammation.
Sandalwood, believed to contain anti-toxic and rejuvenating properties has become a popular ingredient in skin cremes and beauty enhancing products. Like neem it also contains anti itch properties. Sandalwood soothes rough, irritated and allergic skin, leaving clear blemish free skin. You can apply sandalwood oil mixed into coconut oil or sesame seed oil and massaged it in. You can also eat powdered sandalwood: 3 to 6 grams.
Blemish Free Skin: Rose
Rose feels light and slimy. Like all the above, rose has cooling properties, meaning it relieves internal heat related conditions seen as pimples, blemishes and other skin eruptions. It has high vitamin C content, known to rejuvenate the skin. Rose lightens skin tone and acts a nice tonic after washing your face. You can apply rose water externally and also take two teaspoons of Rose syrup mixed in a glassful of water on an empty stomach once or twice a day. This is an effective cure for heat borne skin ailments like Recommended Dosage: 20 to 40 ml of the syrup, 10 to 20 grams of rose- jelly (Gulkand).
